The assembly of all ranks and files of the Headquarters in the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force (SLAVF) enthusiastically integrated with the scheduled programme on the occasion of the 74th Anniversary of the Sri Lanka Army reminiscing a dignified past filled with spectrums of gains and defeats at the Headquarters premises, SLAVF on 10 October 2023
Correspond to the Army Anniversary Day,the ceremony of the Volunteer Force got underway on the auspices of Major General U D Wijesekera RWP RSP USP rcds psc-the Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force and the close supervision of Major General Thusitha Silva KSP-the Deputy Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force.
At the outset, the flag hoisting ceremony was taken place,and the event was attended by Brigadier M M Salwatura RWP RSP USP -the Principal Staff Officer and Brigadier W G P Sisira Kumara RSP- the Inspector of Training of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force. Asserting the sense of pride, patriotism and passion, the gathering recited the Army Song. In memory of fallen war heroes and each and every soul who bequeathed their strengths on this soil behalf, atwo-minute silence was observed. In the wake of the events above,the message issued by Lieutenant General H L V M Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, the Commander of the Army on account of the Army Day was read by Lieutenant Colonel Nishantha Dahanayake-Staff Officer 1 (Publication)-Headquarters, SLAVF.
Further, a special Bhodhi Pooja pinkama was held to invoking the blessings on the members who laid their lives, wounded in action and the entire establishment.
Coincident with the Army Day, the Honourable President Ranil Wickremesinghe, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces has promoted a total of 82 Officers and 515 Other Ranks of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force (SLAVF) to their respective next rank on the recommendations of the Ministry of Defence and Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, Commander of the Army.
Accordingly, 02 Colonels to the rank of Brigadier, 04 Lieutenant Colonels to the rank of Colonel, 11 Majors to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, 29 Captains to the rank of Major and 36 Lieutenants to the rank of Captain have been thus promoted in the officer’s category effective from 10 October 2023.
In the category of Other Ranks, a total of 10 Warrant Officers - II to the rank of Warrant Officer - I, 22 Staff Sergeants to the rank of Warrant Officer - II, 46 Sergeants to the rank of Staff Sergeant, 109 Corporals to the rank of Sergeant, 205 Lance Corporals to the rank of Corporal and 79 Privates to the rank of Lance Corporal have also been promoted, effective from 10 October 2023. Further, 44 employees under militarized and trade basis have been promoted to their respective next ranks on the same date.
The Senior Officers and Officers who have been performing duties in the Headquarters, SLAVF received their insignias from the Commandant amidst heartiest commendations of the distinguished gathering upon promotions which are indeed a reward and a bless for their dedicated military service.
