ARMY VOLUNTEER FORCE ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIPS - 2023

The tradition of sports preserved by the Volunteer Force of the Sri Lanka Army is remarkably unique that validates its standards and virtues, and thusthe Athletics Championships which are particular in nature have been staged passing down its venues and crowning awaiting expectations of sportsmen and sportswomen, from 19 -21 September 2023 at the Mahinda Rajapaksa Stadium, Diyagama on the blessings of Lieutenant General H L V M Liyanage RWP RSP ndu , the Commander of the Army.

The sporting drive that pursues a phenomenal stream of access for future athletics feats of its successors was scheduled as a necessary fulfillment under the directions of Major General D M K D B Pussella RWP RSP, the Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force embracing the challenging milieu of the country.

As such, the opening day of the championships was marked ceremonially with the customary formalities accorded by adding glamour and strength for the days ahead, and the occasion was graced by Major General Thusitha Silva KSP, the Deputy Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force as the Chief Guest.

The day reached to the end with a new meet record set by Lance Corporal Herath HMC of 2 (Volunteer) Sri Lanka Army General Service Corps with a time of 37:04.36 minutes * NMR in the event of Women’s 10000m. 342 sportsmen and 79 sportswomen competed under track and field disciplines at the ground (Tuesday) on 19 Sep 2023 leaving recollections of aspiring sportsmanship that adorn the empowered soldiering.
