Major General D M K D B Pussella RWP RSP assumed the office of Commandant as the 52 nd successor of the Volunteer Force amidst military formalities accorded in honour of his career accession on 17 August 2023 at the Headquarters of the Volunteer Force. The Senior Officer belongs to the clan of 'Archers’: Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment.
A series of customary formalities commenced with the reviewing of Guard Turnout awarded to the incoming Commandant on his arrival to the camp premises. The Commandant was received by the Principal Staff Officer, Coordinating Officer - Sri Lanka Rifle Corps and Sri Lanka Army Pioneer Corps and the Commanding Officer of Headquarters Battalion of the Army Volunteer Force.
The incumbent Commandant was warmly welcomed by the Deputy Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force, Major General Thusitha Silva KSP,and ushered him to the saluting dais to receive the Guard of Honour presented by the troops of the Sri Lanka Army Pioneer Corps amidst melodies hummed for patriotism ever saluted.
The Commandant placed his signature on an official document in the midst of blessings of religious observances and rituals, symbolizing the formal acceptance of his new appointment at the auspicious time, and planting of a sapling was taken place following the event to signify his inauguration of the office.
Addressing the troops, the Commandant commemorated fallen and wounded war heroes by keeping two-minute silence, and made a comprehensive note on preserving the decorum of the Volunteer Force which is the foremost establishment that laid a foot print for the origin of the Sri Lanka Army.
Major General D M K D B Pussella held the office of the Commander at the Security Forces Headquarters (West)and the Colonel Commandant of Sri Lanka Army General Service Corps prior to the appointment of Commandant, SLAVF.
A gathering of officers and other ranks attended the occasion to congratulate on his new appointment.
