MAJOR GENERAL S U M N MANAGE WWV RWP RSP psc TAKES OVER DUTIES AS 51st COMMANDANT OF THE SRI LANKA ARMY VOLUNTEER FORCE

Major General S U M N Manage WWV RWP RSP psc who is the incumbent Colonel Commandant of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment of the Sri Lanka Army assumed duties today (09 June 2023) as 51 ^st Commandant of Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force amidst military formalities accomplished at the Volunteer Force Headquarters, Seethawaka, Kosgama.

The day’s proceedings scheduled in connection with the commencement of the office as the Commandant began on his arrival to the venue. He was warmly received by Major General Thusitha Silva KSP, the Deputy Commandant and Brigadier E K W J Wijesiri RSP ndc, the Principal Staff Officer. After reviewing the Guard Turnout and Guard of Honour accorded by troops of Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment, the Senior Officer walked to the office and placed his signature on an official document, symbolizing the formal acceptance of the office on his new appointment at the auspicious time amidst religious observances.

Subsequently, the Senior Officer planted a sapling of mango (Mangifera indica) to signify his inauguration of the office. The Commandant at his inaugural troops address extended his gratitude to all ranks for warm reception being accorded to him and he further underscored that he looks forward to serve the Volunteer Force while elevating its standards during his short span of tenure. He also remembered, with honour the services of the retired volunteer force members, fallen war heroes and those wounded in action while appreciating their contribution together with the present day members.

Afterwards, the Senior Officer was accorded to a refreshments attended by the Deputy Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force, all Branch Heads and all invitee Officers along with the serving members and Other Ranks of the Headquarters.

Following the refreshments, the Commandant addressed the Officers in attendance where he briefly communicated his vision during the tenure at the SLAVF.

A large gathering of Officers and Other Ranks attended the occasion to congratulate on his new appointment and the day’s programme concluded with a brief interaction.
