MAJOR GENERAL SANJAYA WANASINGHE ASSUMES DUTIES AS THE NEW COMMANDANT OF SLAVF

Major General W A S S Wanasinghe RSP USP ndu assumed duties as the 50th Commandant of Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force amidst military formalities accomplished at the Volunteer Force Headquarters premises at Seethawaka, Kosgama on Thursday (22nd December).

The day’s proceedings in connection with the assumption of duties as the Commandant, the Senior Officer was warmly welcomed by Major General Thusitha Silva KSP, Deputy Commandant, Principal Staff Officer, Centre Commandant Sri Lanka National Guard and Commanding Officer of Headquarter battalion of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force.

After reviewing the Guard Turnout and the Guard of Honour accorded by troops of Sri Lanka National Guard, he arrived to the office premises, amidst invoking the blessings by chanting of Seth Pirith by the Maha Sanga in the Office of the Commandant, Major General W A S S Wanasinghe RSP USP ndu placed his signature on an official document, symbolizing the formal acceptance of the office on his new appointment at the auspicious time. Afterwards, the Commandant planted a sapling of ‘Mango’ in camp premises to signify his inauguration of the Office.

Meanwhile the all-rank tea, the newly appointed Commandant had a close gathering with the Deputy Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force, Principal Staff Officer, All Branch Heads, Brigadier Coordinating Officers, Senior officers, officers and other ranks of the Headquarters.

Afterwards, as the final segment of the event, he delivered thanking remarks to Regimental Centre, Sri Lanka National Guard and all the officers of SLAVF for according a warm reception. During his brief address, he recalled his memory on his father, General Hamilton Wanasinghe who was the 5th Commandant of this significant organization and further he said that by walking his father’s footsteps, he was really fortunate to appoint as the 50th Commandant of the same organization while marking an indelible history in the Army. Finally, he urged all to work diligently as one entity to make his vision reality.

A gathering of officers and other ranks attended the occasion to congratulate on his new appointment.

Major General Sanjaya Wanasinghe who is the Colonel Commandant of the Artillery Regiment, prior to this new appointment served as the Commander, Security Forces Headquarters Mullaitivu.
