“OFFICE ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT COURSE” OBTAINS THE COURSE ACCREDITATION AT THE TERTIARY AND VOCATIONAL EDUCATION COMMISSION (TVEC) OF SRI LANKA

Upon successful completion of the “Office Administrative Assistant Course -88” at the Training School of the Volunteer Force, the certificate awarding ceremony was held at the Multifunctional Hall, Headquarters of the Volunteer Force under the auspices of the Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force on 13th October 2022.

In the wake of an arduous endeavour, the Volunteer Force Training School, the utmost Training Establishment where volunteers are groomed under varied streams of disciplines for taking over their obligations of duties on the establishment behalf, leaped a remarkable step obtaining the course accreditation at the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission (TVEC) of Sri Lanka for the Office Administrative Assistant Course.

Accordingly, the Office Administrative Assistant Course conducted in the Training School of the Volunteer Force received National Vocational Qualification which is a unified qualification framework and recognized nationally and internationally. The NVQs are based on National Competency Standards identified by the industry stakeholders. This framework has been achieved by the Volunteer Force integrating technical/ vocational and higher education in consequence to a great effort of Major General D G S Senarath Yapa RWP RSP ndu - the Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force along with other concerted proponents: Major General Thusitha Silva KSP - the Deputy Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force, Colonel J A J Jayaratne KSP – the Commandant of the Volunteer Force Training School , other benefactors and Directorate of Training . Marking an indelible chapter in the history of the Volunteer Force Training School, the Office Administrative Assistant Course has been adorned with an insignia along with a qualification pay for the first time.

The course of study was delivered under the Competency Based Curricular from 26th July to 8th October 2022 and thirty-eight (38) trainees have been eligible for the National Vocational Qualification Levels 3 & 4. It was followed by phases of evaluations conducted by the Training School and the respective Tertiary and Vocational Education Centre. The women soldiers of Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps marked the remarkable history by placing the first three places of the course; private L H W Liyanage of 5(Volunteer) Sri Lanka Women’s Corps secured the 1st in order of merit of the course, Private K S Dhananjana of 4(Volunteer) Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps became the second and private Dhamayanthi Lelwala of 3(Volunteer) Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps secured the third in the course.

During the occasion, a comprehensive review on the study programme was done by the Commandant of the Volunteer Force Training School.

Reaching the climax of the programme, the Commandant addressed the audience and emphasized on the significance of being qualified in knowledge and skills that have intensive impact on organizational upgradation of the Volunteer Force. Further, the Senior Officer proclaimed his great prospect on heading through this successive path while obtaining the National Vocational Qualification for the other study programmes of the Volunteer Force Training School in future. Further, he extended best compliments for the successful accomplishers and pleasure for this achievement which benefits the entire establishment.

The occasion was witnessed by a large gathering which included Senior Officers, Officers and Staff of the Training School and the Headquarters of the Volunteer Force.
