MAJOR GENERAL P R WANIGASOORIYA VSV USP ndu USACGSC TAKES OVER DUTIES AS COMMANDANT OF THE SRI LANKA ARMY VOLUNTEER FORCE

Major General P R Wanigasooriya VSV USP ndu USACGSC assumed duties as the 43rd Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force amidst military formalities accomplished at the Volunteer Force Headquarters premises, Seethawaka today (10 August).

Brigadier K Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, Principal Staff Officer SLAVF received Major General Ruwan Wanigasooriya on his arrival to the camp premises. The day’s proceedings in connection with the assumption of duties as the Commandant began with reviewing of the Guard Turnout accorded in his honour by the troops of the Sri Lanka Artillery.

Subsequently, the Senior Officer was warmly greeted by Major General K P Nugegoda RWP RSP, Deputy Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force and he was invited to review the Guard of Honour, presented at the “Rendezvous” ground.

Amidst invoking blessings of religious rituals, the Senior Officer placed his signature for a formal document to signify the acceptance of the new appointment at the auspicious time.

The first formal troop address was taken place at the pavilion of the “Rendezvous” ground by Major General Ruwan Wanigasooriya. The Senior Officer highlighted on the significance of preserving the stem of the organization which has been thoroughly followed by the Commander of the Army. Further the Senior Officer extended his heartiest remembrance of fallen war heroes at the battle and exclaimed his gratitude on their dedication. He is in the view of Volunteer Force as a strong unit which caters the dare necessities of the country.

Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks attended the occasion with congratulatory compliments upon his new appointment with the view of foreseeable future of the Headquarters SLAVF.

The Senior Officer planted a sapling of a tree to mark his existence at the Headquarters SLAVF as the Commandant.
