VOLUNTEERING HEADING BEYOND BOUNDARIES HOISTS FLAGS IN SPIRITS OF SPORTING WITH NEW MEET RECORDS

A perfectly determined and prospective athletics championship longed by enthusiasts in sports of the Volunteer Force reached to its culmination with new meet records,and the final curtain of the meet was down with the auspicious of Major General D M K D B Pussella RWP RSP, the Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force as the Chief Guest on 21 September 2023 at the Mahinda Rajapaksa Stadium, Diayagama. The tradition of sports upheld by the Volunteer Force derives precise generational benefits and the event was organized surpassing contemporary challenges for the year with the utmost blessings of Lieutenant General H L V M Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, the Commander of the Army.

According a meaningful vitality for the entire undertaking, outstanding athletes who represented regiments and battalions of the Volunteer Force had been competing under track and field disciplines from 19 to 21 Sep 2023 reflecting on ambitious achievements and expectations for the years beyond.

The Chief Guest of the day was accompanied by the distinguished gathering through guard soldiers spectacularly stood by both sides to the occasion with a traditional display of Ves dancers.The scheduled formalities were observed in connection with the closing day ceremony with an encouraging opening remarks made by Major General Thusitha Silva KSP-Deputy Commandant of the Volunteer Force amidst a pleasing atmosphere coloured by good faiths and commendations of the spectators fading away shady swollen clouds. Accordingly, final competitions were steered along with invitation relays represented by schools with complete respect to the rules, regulation and ethics of sports. Meanwhile,adding a glamorous memory to the occasion, the troops extended their best performances with a heart touching cultural and band displays.

The award of medals, certificates and trophies to achievers in the final championship of the meet was begun. Major General Indu Samarakoon-Army Logistics Commander and Deputy Commandant-Volunteer Force gave away accolades to all runners-up at the awards stage. The championship trophies in the athletic championships of the Volunteer Force were awarded by the day’s Chief Guest, the Commandant-Volunteer Force.

The occasion ascended would undeniably nourish souls of athletes and spirit de corps for pursuing their rays of success reasoning out the role of a soldier. In the wake of the note of acknowledge, the declaration of the ceremonial closing was proclaimed by the Chief Guest witnessing a fruitful athletics championship for the year 2023.

The athletics meet was attended by Major General Indu Samarakoon-Army Logistics Commander, Major General U D Wijesekera RWP RSP USP rcds psc -Commander Security Forces (West), Major General R A J N Ranasinghe RSP USP ndc- 61 Infantry Division Commander, Brigadier K.A.W.N.H Bandaranayake USP-General Officer Commanding of 14 Division, Brigadier Anil Peiris-Director Sports, other invited officials, sports delegates, senior officers and officers.
