THE VOLUNTEER FORCE WARMLY RECEIVES THE 61ST SUCCESSOR IN THE OFFICE OF THE COMMANDANT

Major General K V N P Premaratne RSP USP nps psc assumed duties as the 61 st successor in the office of the Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force on 26 June 2025 at the Headquarters of the Volunteer Force amidst formal military formalities.

On arrival at the camp premises, the newly appointed Commandant was received by Major General A M C Abeykoon RWP RSP USP ndc - Principal Staff Officer of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force accompanied by Brigadier C D Welagedara USP IG and Colonel H P D A Wijesekara, the Commanding Officer - Headquarters Battalion of the Volunteer Force.

After a while, a Guard Turnout was accorded to the Commandant in accordance to the norms and customs of the Sri Lanka Army. The newly appointed Commandant paid his tribute by laying a wreath on the memorial of late Captain Saliya Aladeniya PWV in the gesture of cherished memories of fallen war heroes who sacrificed their innumerable lives to safeguard the unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country.

Later on, the newly appointed Commandant was ushered to the saluting dais by Major General B M R J Bandara, the Deputy Commandant of the Volunteer Force. The Guard of Honour was accorded in his honour by the troops of Sri Lanka Artillery at the parade ground of the Volunteer Force where the Commandant took the salute of the organization.

Afterwards, Major General K V N P Premaratne RSP USP nps psc signed an official document in his office at the auspicious time, symbolising the commencement of his new responsibilities amidst chanting of Seth Pirith by Maha Sanga and blessings of all religious rites and rituals. In line with the itinerary of the day, the senior officer planted a sapling on the camp premises for the memory of the day of assuming duties.

The Commandant during his maiden address extended his gratitude to all ranks for warm reception being accorded to him. He underscored that he looks forward to serve the Volunteer Force which has a proud history and the Commandant also did not forget to extend gratitude for Fallen Volunteer War Heroes and those wounded in action while appreciating their contribution.

In particular, the senior officer urged to assist the “Clean Sri Lanka” initiative launched by his Excellency the President in order to lift the nation to a higher level based on three key pillars called social, ethical and environmental.

Moreover, he requested to ask self-questions from individuals on who I am I?, Why I am here? and what I supposed to do? and he mentioned that if you answer these questions you will gain motivation to discharge your duties well.

In addition to that, as military personnel, he highlighted to pay more attention on five key components; respect for others job, responsibility, accountability, Supervising the tasks and discipline. Besides that, he emphasized another twenty qualities which cultivate and improve as defender of the nation including trust, appearance, judgment, command, self-confidence, man management, leadership, physical fitness, loyalty, moral standards, reliability, Intelligence, power of expression, professional knowledge, initiative, organizing ability, instructional ability etc.

Major General K V N P Premaratne RSP USP nps psc who belongs to Sri Lanka Artillery and prior to this appointment, he served as the Adjutant General of the Sri Lanka Army.

A large gathering of Officers and other ranks who attended to congratulate the Commandant including Centre Commandant of Sri Lanka Artillery, Centre Commandant of Sri Lanka National Guard, Brigadier Coordinating Officers, Coordinating Officer of SLAPC /SLRC, Colonel Coordinating Officers, Commandant Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force Training School and Commanding Officers of Volunteer Battalions along with the staff of HQ SLAVF.
