Honourable Premitha Bandara Tennakoon, State Minister of Defence visited to the Headquarters of the Volunteer Force on 12 January 2024.
The State Minister of Defence on his arrival to the Headquarters was received by Major General MK Jayawardena RSP VSV USP ndu - Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force (SLAVF).
In the wake of his presence to the camp premises, the State Minister of Defence laid a wreath at the memorial of Captain Saliya Aladeniya PWV who marked the essence of volunteering that is ever saluted and honoured.
The motorcade carrying the State Minister of Defence, preceded by riders entered the camp premises and was saluted in a drive-past Guard Turnout and a colorful Guard of Honour.
The Commandant SLAVF, Major General Thusitha Silva KSP - Deputy Commandant SLAVF and distinguished senior officers and officials called on the State Minister and had an official interaction during the visit.
The opening address to the troops was marked by the State Minister of Defence with a solemn respect to the war heroes who laid their lives and wounded in action for the sovereignty of this soil during the war. The role of the soldier moulded and nourished with discipline and loyalty was tremendously underpinned as a special remark, and he emphasized on such exemplary conducts of military to be brought to the entire society.
In particular,the State Minister of Defence paid his honour to His Excellency Ranil Wickremesinghe whose vision is for standing against challenges as a nation amidst this crucial economic crisis of the country.As well, he paid his gratitude to Lieutenant General H L V M Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, the Commander of the Army for his outstanding leadership for the best functioning of the Sri Lanka Army.
A special memento was presented to the State Minister of Defence for the memory of his visit to the Headquarters of the Volunteer Force.
Senior Officers, Officers and the troops representing the battalions of the Volunteer Force attended the event.
