SRI LANKA LIGHT INFANTRY HONOURS MAJOR GENERAL MTKR SILVA KSP

Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) bade a formal farewell to Major General Thusitha Silva KSP on 22nd April 2024 at the Regimental Centre, Panagoda upon his retirement from the Sri Lanka Army with effect from 24 April 2024.

In honour of the dedicated service of Major General Thusitha Silva to the Sri Lanka Army where his mother regiment: Sri Lanka Light Infantry is ordained, an elegant Guard Turnout and a Guard of Honour were accorded by the troops of the SLLI . The senior officer had been serving in the office of the Deputy Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force since 15 August 2022 hitherto as the terminal career destination.

The Senior Officer joined the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force as an Officer Cadet on 02 August 1989 under the Intake 11. Upon successful completion of the basic military training at the Sri Lanka Military Academy, he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant and was posted to the 5th (Volunteer) Battalion of the SLLI on 30 April 1990.

In his illustrious military career spanning over 34 years, he was groomed as a military personality and an accomplished officer in all aspects under varied capacities of Staff, Instructional and Command conferred to the respective ranks.

The senior officer paid tribute to the memory of fallen war heroes by placing floral wreaths at the Monument of War Heroes.Subsequently, the closing remark was made on expressing his gratitude to all the officers and soldiers in carrying out duties and responsibilities throughout his military career.

The day’s proceedings reached the culmination with the departure of Major General Thusitha Silva from the Regimental Centre, Sri Lanka Light Infantry amidst good-bye cheers of Officers and Other Ranks who street lined on both sides of the road leading to the Main Gate.

The Sri Lanka Light Infantry hosted a Dinner Night for Major General Thusitha Silva, his spouse: Mrs. Nelum De Silva and the son: Hirindu Thusira at the Officers’ Mess of the Regimental Centre, Sri Lanka Light Infantry following the military tradition. The dinner formalities were observed reflecting a parsimonious adherence to long preserved customs and traditions in the military and the loyal toast was followed with the musical accompaniment in attendance.

The ceremony was attended by Colonel of the Regiment, Major General Mihindu Perera RWP RSP USP ndc, the Chair Person of the Sri Lanka Light Infantry Seva Vanitha Branch, Madam Mrs. Vajira Perera, Retiring Seneiror Officers Council members of the Sri Lanka Light Infantry Regimental Council and their respected ladies, Centre Commandant, Deputy Centre Commandant, Senior Officers and Officers.
