SRI LANKA ARMY VOLUNTEER FORCE TRAINING SCHOOL HANDED OVER, THREE METRIC TONS OF HIGH QUALITY ORGANIC FERTILIZER FOR DISTRIBUTION

In line with the government's policy of "Vistas of Prosperity and Splendour" introducing organic fertilizer for cultivation and agricultural purposes, Sri Lanka Army has been at the forefront with the direction of Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army General L H S C Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil of producing such stocks in the past few months.

On 18 January 2022, Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force Training School (SLAVFTS) handed over a consignment of 3 metric tons of organic manure, produced by troops serving at school to government-owned `Lak Pohora' Ceylon Fertilizer Company Ltd for onward distribution among the farming community.

The stock, produced by the SLAVFTS as its Phase -1 of the Organic Fertilizer Project was the collective effort of all troops at school on the guidelines given by Colonel H A Keerthinatha RSP KSP psc, the Commandant, SLAVFTS Diyatalawa and its formal delivery to government authorities took place at the SLAVFTS premises, headed by Major General M K S Silva RWP RSP ndu, Commander Security Force Headquarters (Central), Mr Samantha Priyankara, Area Manager (Uva) at `Lak Pohora' Ceylon Fertilizer Company Ltd symbolically accepted the stock at the occasion.

Afterwards the Area Manager (Uva) at `Lak Pohora' Ceylon Fertilizer Company Ltd visited the organic farm and compost manufacturing project by the school where he witnessed the successful process of organic fertilizer based vegetable cultivation and its harvest. Further, he appreciated the effort and commitment done by the troops for the national requirement.

Senior Officers including Major General M K S Silva RWP RSP, Commander, Security Force Headquarters (Central) were associated with the brief event.

The brief ceremony strictly followed COVID - 19 health guidelines.
