SRI LANKA ARMY VOLUNTEER FORCE BIDS ADIEU TO THE COMMANDANT, MAJOR GENERAL K V N P PREMARATNE RSP USP nps psc

Major General K V N P Premaratne RSP USP nps psc concluded his tenure as the 61st Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force (SLAVF) on 2 April 2026, bringing to a close a distinguished period of service marked by exemplary leadership, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to duty. As a highly respected and accomplished Senior Officer, he is widely regarded as a gentleman whose integrity, vision, and dedication have earned the admiration and confidence of both Officers and Other Ranks. Throughout his tenure, he successfully commanded troops at multiple levels, demonstrating foresight, discipline, and a steadfast commitment to the welfare and advancement of the SLAVF.

In a ceremony marked by dignity and military tradition, all formalities associated with the relinquishment of duties were duly observed. The outgoing Commandant was accorded a warm reception by Brigadier H A Keerthinatha RSP KSP psc, Brigadier Administration of the SLAVF, and Colonel E D T P E Bandara, the Commanding Officer of the Headquarters Battalion of the Volunteer Force.

A series of customary formalities commenced with the reviewing of the Guard Turnout, accorded to the outgoing Commandant upon his arrival at the camp premises. He was then escorted by the Brigadier Administration of the SLAVF to the memorial of Captain Saliya Aladeniya, where he paid tribute by laying a wreath in honour of him and all fallen war heroes, paying respect to their supreme sacrifice for the nation’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.

Upon his arrival at the parade ground, the outgoing Commandant was received by the Brigadier H A Hapugoda USACGSC, Principal Staff Officer of the SLAVF and escorted to the saluting dais to receive the Guard of Honour presented by the troops of the Sri Lanka Artillery, as patriotic melodies resonated in tribute to his service.

Subsequently, Major General K V N P Premaratne RSP USP nps psc formally marked the relinquishment of his duties by signing the official handing-over document in the presence of Senior Officers of the SLAVF. Adding a remarkable tenure of command to the legacy of the Commandants of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force, the Senior Officer unveiled his portrait at the office of the Commandant. The occasion was further commemorated with a group photograph taken in front of the office complex, capturing the significance of the moment and honouring his dedicated service.

The day’s proceedings also reflected the breadth of his contributions beyond formalities. Major General K V N P Premaratne RSP USP psc nps inaugurated several key facilities, including the Panoramic View, the newly constructed Commandant’s Chalet, and the Greenview Cafeteria, highlighting his commitment to enhancing operational infrastructure and the welfare of all ranks. He visited the Warrant Officers’ & Sergeants’ Mess, strengthening bonds with Senior Non-Commissioned Officers.

During his address to the troops, he stressed that real change starts within, encouraging soldiers to uphold strong values while balancing duty with personal well-being and continuous self-improvement. He honoured past sacrifices, highlighted the role of the Volunteer Force, expressed gratitude to leadership, and concluded by wishing all ranks strength and success. Moreover, the outgoing Commandant expressed his sincere appreciation to the President of Sri Lanka and the Commander of the Army for their steadfast leadership and continued support.

As Major General K V N P Premaratne RSP USP psc nps embarks on his next appointment as the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army, the third most senior position in the Sri Lanka Army the entire establishment expressed heartfelt appreciation for his leadership, guidance, and exemplary personal qualities. Senior Officers, Officers, and Other Ranks extended their best wishes for his continued success, confident that he will uphold the highest standards of service and leadership in this prestigious new role.
