Major General H J S Gunawardena RSP VSV USP ndc psc who assumed the office as the 41st Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force and Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army was accorded a Guard of Honour at the “Rendezvous” Ground of the Headquarters, SLAVF on 27 July 2020.
Golden days created periodically with its standards of the creators and will last for generations with procedural development causing enhancive upliftment of an organization. The HQ SLAVF was gifted with such era though it was framed to a few countable days such as six months under the command of Major General Jagath Gunawardena. And such extent is incomparable and remarkable as it leads to a significant destination laying the foundations for fundamental development of the Volunteer Force.
Offering honorary gratitude and accomplishing obligations to such extraordinary orientation and leadership, Principal Staff Officer SLAVF Brigadier K Liyanage RWP RSP ndu and Brigadier Administration SLAVF Brigadier J D C G Jayasinghe received the Chief of Staff Major General Jagath Gunawardena at his arrival with a reviewing of the Guard Turnout accorded in his honour by the troops of Sri Lanka Engineers.
Subsequently, Chief of Staff was warmly welcomed by Major General K P Nugegoda RWP RSP, Deputy Commandant of the SLAVF and marking a historical phenomenon of the Volunteer Force and symbolizing the first formal accommodating of the “Rendezvous” Ground, an elegance Guard of Honour was accorded on behalf of Major General Jagath Gunawardena who is the initiator of prevailing commendable constructions which are being processed at the Headquarters.
Chief of Staff planted a sapling of a tree signifying his arrival to the HQ SLAVF and posed for a photograph with the gathering.
Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks attended the occasion with congratulatory compliments upon the current appointment and his veritable contribution towards the Volunteer Force.
