REACHING THE PINNACLE OF ARMY WOMEN’S CRICKET

S/R102916 Corporal Sanjeewani MAA spelled out the road of captaincy in the Irelandcricket series whichincluded two T-20s and three ODIs commencedon 11August in Dublin followed by second T-20 on 13 Augustsustaining future prospects for women’s cricket that will enhance the recognition of both the nation and the Army.

Corporal Sanjeewani joined the Volunteer Force of the Sri Lanka Army on 22 August 2020 as a cricketerin the rank of Lance Corporal under the direct enlistment scheme,and performed as a permanent fielder in the Women’s Cricket Pool and the Sri Lanka National Cricket Pool. Due to her exceptional performance, she was promoted to the rank of Corporal in the Sri Lanka Army.

Corporal Sanjeewaniwho was born to Mr. M A Karunadasa and late Mrs. TA Mayurawathi grew up in Hikkaduwa. She admitted to Jayanthi Model School in Galle, and later studied at Sri Sumangala Central College in Hikkaduwa.During the school, she was interested in playing elle and volleyball and competedin the athletics games under the guidance of Mr. SR Nanayakkara. Afterwards, she joined the 'Guna Jaya Sathuta Foundation’ in Seenigama under his directions, and played cricket two years since her school was not privileged the cricket.

Owing to her remarkable performances in 2011, she received the opportunity to represent the National Cricket Pool against the Indian Women Cricket Team.
