Hosting a successful achievement and highlighting its potential to elevate women’s cricket globally, soldiers who represented Sri Lanka Women’s Cricket Team shouldered the victory of women’s team who won their first Women’s T20 Asia Cup in the year 2024.
In appreciation of outstanding talent, passion, unconditional commitment and the greatest attainment by the virtue of having served with credit and honour to the motherland that gleams the utmost decorum of the Volunteer Force, S/R 100331 Sergeant Dassanayaka DMSMK, S/R100430 Sergeant Kulasooriya WGAK, S/R100437 Sergeant Silva NND and S/R102916 Lance Corporal Sanjeewani MAA who represented at the Women’s T20 Asia Cup -2024 were cherished by Major General W P A D W Nanayakkara RSP VSV USP ndu - Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force on 5 August 2024 at the Headquarters of the Volunteer Force.
The achievers were presented with a memento and a financial award, and tributed with a warm reception. The Commandant and the gathering of officers extended their best compliments for their future endeavours while having a cordial interaction with the players.
The Volunteer Force has contributed in national and international arena immensely in the field of sports from winning the first Olympic Medal. Notable contributions in sports from the members of the Volunteer Force include the evident achievements and the services of these sportsmen and women have been obtained to illuminate the sports in the Sri Lanka Army.This triumph of women soldiers is marked in the greatest legendry of the Volunteer Force, and ever lasted for generations beyond.
The Women’s T20 Asia Cup 2024 was slated on July 19 at the Rangiri Dambulla International Cricket Stadium in Dambulla. The tournament was featured with the teams from Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, UAE, Nepal, Malaysia, and Thailand. The teams competed over 15 matches, culminating in the semi-finals and finals. Proving the spirited strength and aspiration, Sri Lanka women’s cricket team won the Women’s T20 Asia Cup 2024, and this accomplishment serves as a catalyst for a better and brighter future for women’s cricket.
The occasion was attended by Major General WGP Sisira Kumara RSP ,the Deputy Commandant - Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force, Senior Officers, Commanding Officers of the 2 & 3 (Volunteer) Battalions of the Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps and Officers.
