MAJOR GENERAL M T K R SILVA TAKES OVER DUTIES AS DEPUTY COMMANDANT OF THE SRI LANKA ARMY VOLUNTEER FORCE

Newly promoted Major General M T K R Silva KSP who is a well-known Senior Officer from the Sri Lanka Light Infantry of the Sri Lanka Army assumed duties today (17th August) as the Deputy Commandant of Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force amidst military formalities accomplished at the Volunteer Force Headquarters premises at Kosgama.

The day’s proceedings in connection with the assumption of duties as the Deputy Commandant began with reviewing of the Guard Turnout accorded in his honour by the troops of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force. Later, Guard of Honour was accorded him by the troops of Sri Lanka Light Infantry at the parade ground.

Afterwards, Major General M T K R Silva placed his signature on an official document, symbolizing the formal acceptance of his new appointment at the auspicious time amidst invoking of the blessings and chanting of Seth Pirith by Maha Sanga. Afterwards, new Deputy Commandant planted a sapling to signify his inauguration of the office.

The Deputy Commandant at his inaugural troops address underscored that he looks forward to serve the Volunteer Force while elevating its standards. He also remembered, with honour the service of his predecessors, the past Commandants, fallen War Heroes and those wounded in action while appreciating their contribution along with the present day members.

Subsequently, the newly appointed Deputy Commandant was accorded to a tea attended by senior officers of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force and all invitee Officers along with the serving members of the Headquarters where he had interactions with the participants. Afterwards, new Deputy Commandant planted a sapling to signify his inauguration of the office.

Major General M T K R Silva KSP was serving as the Inspector of Training of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force prior to his new appointment. Senior Officers including the Officers and Other Ranks attended the occasion to congratulate on his appointment and the promotion.

In the afternoon, as the day’s conclusion, Major General D G S SENARATH YAPA RWP RSP ndu, the Commandant, Sir Lanka Army Volunteer Force welcomed newly appointed Major General M T K R Silva and extended his heartiest congratulations for his promotion and appointment at his office.
