Major General D G S Senarath Yapa RWP RSP ndu assumed duties as the 49th Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force amidst military formalities accomplished at the Volunteer Force Headquarters , Kosgama today (16 June).
The day’s proceedings scheduled in connection with the commencement of the Office as the Commandant began on his arrival to the venue. He was warmly welcomed by Major General W M D S K Gunawardhane RSP KSP the Deputy Commandant of SLAVF. After reviewing the Guard Turnout accorded by troops of Gajaba Regiment, Guard of Honour was accorded in his honour by the troops of Gajaba Regiment at the parade ground where the Commandant took the salute of the organization.
Subsequently, the Senior Officer, amidst invoking blessings of Buddhist religious rituals, placed his signature on an official document, symbolizing the formal acceptance of his new appointment at the auspicious time. Later, the Senior Officer planted a sapling to signify his inauguration of the office.
The Commandant at his inaugural troops address extended his gratitude to all ranks for warm reception being accorded to him and he further underscored that he looks forward to serve the Volunteer Force while elevating its standards. He also remembered, with honour the services of the past Commandants, fallen War Heroes and those wounded in action while appreciating their contribution along with the present day members.
The Senior Officer was accorded to a tea attended by Deputy Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force, Principal Staff Officer and all Branch heads of the Headquarters of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force, along with the serving members and Other Ranks of the Headquarters. Later, newly appointed Commandant posed for a photograph with senior officers of SLAVF.
In the afternoon, as the day’s conclusion, he attended for the staff briefing and zoom meeting with Volunteer Coordinating Officers in all SFHQs.
