MAJOR GENERAL C D WEERASURIYA RWP RSP ndu TAKES OVER DUTIES AS COMMANDANT OF THE SRI LANKA ARMY VOLUNTEER FORCE

Upon the designation as the 48th Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force, Major General C D Weerasuriya RWP RSP ndu assumed the office of the prestigious appointment at the Headquarters of the Volunteer Force on 15th December 2021.

The customary proceedings scheduled were performed on his arrival to the camp premises. The Snr Offr was warmly received by the Inspector of Training of the HQ SLAVF, Brigadier S N Samarawickrama KSP. Following the Guard Turnout, he was ushered to the saluting dais by the Deputy Commandant of the HQ SLAVF, Major General J D C G Jayasinghe KSV KSP and the Guard of Honour was accorded in his honour by the troops of the Sri Lanka Light Infantry.

Amidst religious rites and rituals and chanting of ‘Seth Pirith’ of Maha Sangha, the formal acceptance of duties was executed leaving his signature in a formal document as the Commandant of the Volunteer Force at the auspicious time.

During his inaugural speech, he extended his pleasure for being conferred the appointment of Commandant of the Volunteer Force which has been a true savior who commits to safeguard the nation. Further, the senior officer emphasized on the significance of the entitled responsibilities of the organization as the second highest establishment of the Sri Lanka Army. He unveiled his extreme intention on accelerating and accomplishments of the constructions which have been initiated under the past commandants of the Volunteer Force.

Signifying the inauguration of the office as the Commandant, Major General Channa Weerasuriya planted a sapling in the Headquarters premises. The senior officer was accorded to a tea attended by all ranks and during the session he had a cordial interaction with everyone.

A large gathering of Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks presented the occasion, and extended their best compliments. The programme of the day was underway following the health directives which have been issued for COVID -19 pandemic of the country.
