LAID FOUNDATION TO CONSTRUCT A MONUMENT AT SLAVF

In remembrance of late legendary war hero; a corner-stone laid at Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force premises to erect a monument of Captain S W M Saliya Upul Aladeniya PWV SLSR who awarded Parama Weera Vibhushana (Supreme Heroism Decoration); for his Individual acts of gallantry and conspicuous bravery of the most exceptional order in the face of the enemy, performed voluntarily whilst on active service and with no regard to the risk of his own life and security with the objective of safeguarding there by the lives of his comrades or facilitating the operational aim of his force at Kokavil on 6 June 1990.

Captain S W M Saliya Upul Aladeniya PWV SLSR marked the indelible history in becoming the first recipient officer of Parama Weera Vibhushana; the highest military decorations awarded posthumously for the acts of exceptional valour in the Sri Lanka Army. Further, he was posthumously promoted from Second Lieutenant to Captain by two ranks at once for the first time in military history in Sri Lanka in appreciation of his innumerable dedication and sacrifice.

On arrival, Major General D M K D B Pussella RWP RSP who is instrumental in initiating the noble concept was received by Major General Thusitha Silva KSP, the Deputy Commandant SLAVF. Later, the Commandant laid the corner-stone and signaled the inauguration of the erection at the auspicious time on 14 September 2023 amid 'Seth Pirith' chanting by Maha Sangha.

The foundation-stone laying for the monument was conducted in a simple ceremony, attended by Senior Officers who serve at the Headquarters, Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force.
