Hosting to the strength and the power of soldiering, the Tug-of-war, which is an athletic contest, was unfolded with the participation of serving members of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force for the year 2024 with the auspicious of Major General W P A D W Nanayakkara RSP VSV USP ndu, the Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force.
In crowning awaiting aspirations of the sportsmen and the sports women, Inter Regiment Tug-of-war Championship which possesses a precise calbre in Army sporting , was organized coincide with the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force Inter Regiment Athletics Championships in the year.
The auspicious commencement of the competition was graced by Brigadier M M Salwatura RWP RSP USP, the Principal Staff Officer - Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force at the Army Cantonment, Seethawaka on 14 August 2023 as the Chief Guest of the day. The finals were set on 15 September 2024 with the auspicious of Major General W G P Sisira Kumara RSP - Deputy Commandant, SLAVF.
Sixteen teams of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force competed for supremacy on both days as scheduled. In the male category, the Gajaba Regiment won the Championship that owed to Sri Lanka Light Infantry after 5 years placing them as the Runner-up. The Second Runner-up was the Gemunu Watch.
In the female category, 2 (Volunteer) Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps secured the Championship while 3 (Volunteer) Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps secured the Runner-up slot. The Second Runner-up slot went to the Sri Lanka Army General Service Corps.
In the bliss of awaiting achievements, the spirited athletes competed displaying their esprit de corps and the sense of solidarity. The mutual collaboration as a crew could elevate the effort a productive culmination with achievements clearing the ways for future engagements in sports.
