Major General K V N P Premaratne RSP USP nps psc, the Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force (SLAVF), conducted formal field visits to 2nd (Volunteer) Battalion of the Sri Lanka Light Infantry at Kelanimulla and 2nd(Volunteer) Sri Lanka Army Service Corps at Katunayaka on 24 February 2026.
Upon arrival to the 2 (V) SLLI in the morning on the day, the Commandant was received by the Commanding Officer of 2 (V) SLLI and was accorded a Guard Turnout by the troops of the battalion in recognition of his official visit. Afterwards, he planted a sapling at the battalion premises to mark his visit and posed for a group photograph. Next, the Commanding Officer of the 2 (V) SLLI Maj M C Prasad psc SLLI, briefed the administrative formalities and the status in relation to the other procedures.
In his subsequent address, Major General K V N P Premaratne RSP USP nps psc highlighted that self-realization as the cornerstone of professional excellence. He requested all personnel to define their identity, mission purpose, and specific objectives to ensure peak performance in both military operations and civil activities. Key directives during his address were professional integrity by mastering individual roles, mutual respect by honouring the duties and jurisdictions of fellow service members, accountability and responsibility in the execution of all assigned duties.
Later on, a special memento was presented to the Commandant SLAVF as a gesture of goodwill by the Commanding Officer of the 2 (V) SLLI.
Afterwards, the Commandant carried out an inspection of the camp premises to assess the current working and administrative status of the battalion. Further, instructions were made to upgrade the communal facilities of officers and soldiers,
Following, the inspection the Commandant concluded his visit at 2 (V) SLLI.
Afterwards, as the second visit of the day’s itinerary, the Commandant SLAVF arrived to 2 (V) SLASC at Katunayaka in the afternoon on the day and he was warmly welcomed by
the Commanding Officer of 2 (V) SLASC, Maj S M J A Samarakoon Lsc SLASC. Afterwards, the Commandant SLAVF was accorded a guard turnout by the troops of the battalion. Following the group photograph, the Commanding Officer of the 2 (V) SLASC briefed the Commandant on the existing administrative procedures and the status in relation to the other procedures.
In line with the programme, a troop address headed by the Commandant SLAVF, was held to express his opinions and directions on The Commandant SLAVF addressed the troops, outlining strategic directives for battalion development and its subsequent impact on battalion and entire organization. Moreover, he highlighted the importance of good conduct and problem free environment.
Subsequently, the Commandant inspected the camp premises and instructed to uphold the standard of the battalion.
To mark the significance of the occasion, he penned his thoughts in the Visitors’ Book.
As the final segment of the day, a special souvenir prepared by the all ranks of the battalion was presented to the Commandant SLAVF by the Commanding Officer of the 2 (V) SLASC.
The visits were attended by Principal Staff Officer, Brigadier Coordinating Officer SFHQ (West), Colonel Coordinating Officers, Senior Officers of Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force.
