COMMANDANT OF THE SRI LANKA ARMY VOLUNTEER FORCE MAJOR GENERAL H J S GUNAWARDENA RSP VSV USP ndc psc BIDS FAREWELL TO VOLUNTEER FORCE OF SRI LANKA ARMY

Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force Major General H J S Gunawardena RSP VSV USP ndc psc relinquished the appointment of Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force today, on 30 May 2020.

A series of formalities observed in connection with the relinquishment of the appointment and the senior officer was extended a Drive Pass Honour and ushered to the Headquarters to the outgoing Commandant on arrival to the venue. He was received by Major General K P Nugegoda RWP RSP, the Deputy Commandant.

Marking his departure the Commandant declared open the Reverse Osmosis Installation (RO Installation) which fulfils a fundamental requirement of the camp. This will determine the quality of water and every one of the camp would be facilitated with safe drinking water supply. The purified water output of the proposed Water Treatment Plant will be 500 litres per hour.

Addressing the troops of the Volunteer Force, Major General H J S Gunawardena thanked the Deputy Commandant and the Staff for the excellent arrangements made on his behalf. He unfolded his delighted bliss spelling out that his tenure spanning for six months as Commandant of the Volunteer Force be reminiscent as one of the best satisfying chapters in his military career as he was able to work with a team of exceptional capabilities. He was grateful to all ranks, every individual including the retired members and civil servants for the indelible support extended during his tenure. Further, the fallen War Heroes, the wounded and the Volunteer Force personnel who departed this life on various causes were remembered. In his final remarks Major General Jagath Gunawardena gave a piece of advice to all ranks to further extend their service while making their personal and military life successful.

Commandant SLAVF in most appreciative gesture gave away a certificate of appreciation to Capt G A M R D B Udurawana USP SLE, Plant Officer Commanding for the dedicated contribution extended over the past six months for the development of HQ SLAVF .Further all personnel whose service and contribution extended over the past six months for the development of HQ SLAVF. Further all personnel whose service and contribution for the same endeavors were also appreciated with a same gesture. Their certificates of appreciation will be circulated since they were not present at the occasion due to social distancing directions.

After posing for photographs with the Staff of the SLAVF, the outgoing Commandant did not forget to have an exchange of a few words with the Officers and Other Ranks while having a cup of tea with them after which he was honored with a memento in appreciation of his illustrious service to the Volunteer Force.

In the recognition of his great services and appreciating his service Senior Officers and Other Ranks presented souvenirs.

Major General K P Nugegoda RWP RSP Deputy Commandant, Senior Officers and Other Ranks of the HQ SLAVF attended the occasion.

Major General H J S Gunawardena RSP VSV USP ndc psc will be taking over the duties as chief of staff of the Sri Lanka Army which is one of the prestigious appointments in the Army.

The programme of the day was underway following the health directives which have been issued for “COVID 19” pandemic of the country.
