THE COMMANDANT SLAVF PRESIDES NVQ CERTIFICATES AWARDING CEREMONY AT SLAVFTS

Marking the maiden visit to the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force Training School, Diyathalawa following the assumption of duties as the Commandant of Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force, Major General W P A D W Nanayakkara RSP VSV USP ndu Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force arrived to the SLAVFTS; the utmost training establishment of the Volunteer Force as the Chief Guest of the certificate awarding ceremony upon the invitation of Colonel J A J Jayaratne KSP, the Commandant – SLAVFTS on 03rd September 2024.

The Commandant - SLAVF was warmly received by Colonel J A J Jayaratne KSP, the Commandant - SLAVFTS on his arrival and a Guard Turnout saluted the Commandant -SLAVF in accordance with the customary military formalities. The occasion followed a planting of a sapling and posing for a group photograph as souvenirs of his visit to the training school.

Prior to the most vital occasion of the day’s agenda, Colonel J A J Jayaratne KSP, the Commandant SLAVFTS delivered a concise speech about the inception and proud history on the SLAVFTS. During his speech he stated that the SLAVFTS was formed in 1903 in order to train soldiers and it is considered as the oldest military training establishment in Sri Lanka. He further elaborated that it annually produces more than 1300 qualified volunteer members through 13 courses.

Later on, a presentation prepared by the students of Administrative Assistant Course was unfolded on stage and subsequently, the most significant event of the day’s schedule, awarding of certificates of National Vocational Qualification Level 3 and 4 were presented by the Commandant SLAVF to thirty six students who successfully concluded the Administrative Assistants Course.

Afterwards, an inspirational troop address was then delivered by the Commandant SLAVF by highlighting that the SLAVFTS has obtained an overall grading of 77.4 marks which can be categorized as “excellent” during the past training audit conducted by Directorate of Research, Concept and Development and he further mentioned that the Director General General Staff had sent him an especial note of appreciation on that regard. Moreover, the Commandant extended gratitude for all staff who contributed their cooperation to uplift the standard of training of volunteer members. Further, he proclaimed that certain courses of regular force will be amalgamated to the SLAVFTS in recent future since the SLAVFTS reached the required progress presently.

Then he visited the training school premises and pledged to improve the infrastructure facilities of the school. Later, he presented a treadmill, worth more than 1.2 million to the Gymnasium with a view of improving physical fitness of the students.

As the last segment of the event, mementos were exchanged by both parties as tokens of appreciations.

The occasion was witnessed by Brigadier (Administration) SLAVF, Colonel (Training) SLAVF, Colonel (Logistics)-SLAVF and a large gathering which included Senior Officers, Officers, Students and Staff of the Volunteer Force Training School.
