COMMANDANT SLAVF COMMENDS THE SERVICE OF SUPPRESSED BATTALLIONS

On the distinctive guidelines of the Commandant Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force Major General D M K D B Pussella RWP RSP, SLAVF paid its tribute of appreciation for Commanding Officers and Regimental Sergeant Majors of recently disbanded volunteer battalions in honour of their service rendered to the Sri Lanka Army at Multi functional Hall on 26 September 2023.

In commensurate the Army restructuring process,eighteen volunteer battalions were disbanded and this reduction is a part of a “strategic blueprint” designed to foster a well-balanced defence force by the year 2030 in order to meet present economic crisis and upcoming security challenges in the country.

Major General D M K D B Pussella RWP RSP, the Commandant SLAVF was the Chief Guest of the event and he was warmly welcomed by the Major General Thusitha Silva KSP, Deputy Commandant SLAVF on the arrival.

During the event, the Commanding Officers of the disbanded battalions officially handed over the flags of the units to the Chief Guest and subsequently all disbanded units were awarded certificates of commendation for their immense contribution in all major offensives of the civil war since its birth until the culmination of the humanitarian operations and even during post war era.

Afterwards, in recognition of being the final successors of such battalions, the Commanding Officers and Regimental Sergeant Majors received letters of commendation as a token of appreciation since they guided their respective units to reach the objectives of the entire organization.

Later, the day’s Chief Guest extended his heartiest gratitude to the Commanding Officers and Regimental Sergeant Majors for their tremendous contribution during war and peace during his address and wished to success all of their future endeavours.

After a while, all of them were posed for a photograph with the Chief Guest.

The cultural troops of Directorate of Army Band and Performing Arts added glamour throughout the event.
