The 5th Volunteer Battalion of Sri Lanka Light Infantry (5 (V) SLLI) greeted Major General Thusitha Silva KSP, the Deputy Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force (SLAVF) for his ascension to a two-star general officer heralding the fame and honour of his mother unit on 25 April 2023. He deserves the salutation of his mother unit where he was groomed and nourished, for being the first Major General produced by the 5 (V) SLLI.
The event was scheduled with the blessings of Major General CD Weerasuriya RWP RSP ndu, the Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army and Colonel of the Regiment of Sri Lanka Light Infantry and Major General Sanjaya Wanasinghe RSP VSV USP ndu, the Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force.
Major General Thusitha Silva was warmly received by Major UMTC Dharmasiri RWP SLLI, Commanding Officer, 5 (V) SLLI and he was accorded a Guard Turnout and a Guard of Honour on his arrival to the camp premises.
In remembrance of fallen war heroes who made supreme sacrifice for this soil behalf, a flower wreath was laid by the senior officer. The formalities of the day were followed customarily, and marking the maiden visit in his decorum of authority the senior officer planted a sapling at the camp premises and a newly built accommodation was declared open.
During the troop address, the Deputy Commandant spelled out the eminence and the distinction of volunteering which are honoured and appraised at every phases of national requirements emphasizing the commitment, loyalty and integration of its members. Further, the harmony of each member in accomplishing errand entrusted was highly appreciated conveying his vision upon realizing the establishment goals as a family.
The visit was attended by a gathering of Senior Officers and Officers.
