The 5th SLASC had been assigned to carry out the supply and transport duties of the Northern Province, and 310 SLASC Composite Squadron were stationed in the Elephant Pass area to carry out their duties efficiently.
Under the prevailing war situation this unit was established at Kankesanthurai area as it was close to the railway transportation for the easiness of the supply and transport duties for the troops.
Following the relocation of the Army Headquarters (51 Division, 52 Division, 54 Division) to the Security Forces Headquarters (Jaffna) area, on the necessity of establishing SLASC units to meet the supply and transport requirements of the troops deployed under the Army Headquarters, on 1998.04.08, the Army Service Corps commenced the upgrading of the 5 SLASC Then, on 10.12.1998, it was established in the then land of “Union College" in the Thelippale area of the Jaffna Peninsula.
