SRI LANKA ARMY SERVICE CORPS - 1ST REGIMENT

After Ceylon gained independence on February 4, 1948, the Ceylon Service Corps was established as a permanent force on October 31, 1949. This was confined to one team and the first officer and first commander of the unit was Captain WW Perera, Pte Silva RSR was the first regular soldier. Established as a unit consisting of volunteers and soldiers, they were stationed at Avalon Square, Colombo. The Corps Headquarters was located at Kirulapana in 1956 at the time the 4th Engineer Regiment was located. In 1962 the unit headquarters was moved to the Panagoda Army Cantonment. After being designated as a republic in 1972, the unit was renamed as Sri Lanka Army Service Corps with effect from May 22, 1972.

The following squadrons have been established in each area to cover the supply and transport duties.

1st Battalion - Boossa Area
2nd Squadron - North Central Region
3rd Battalion - East
4th Squadron - North
5th Battalion - Vavuniya
6th Squadron - Diyatalawa Area
7th Squadron - Malewadiya Area

Subsequently, on March 9, 1989, the Regiment was divided into three regiments - 1st Regiment, Sri Lanka Army Service Corps and 2nd (Volunteer) and 3rd Regiment Sri Lanka Army Service Corps - by force of 19/89 and 23.03.1979 Reserved.

A unit of public transport was established at the base of this unit in 1988, and after the establishment of this unit a supply fleet was established in the same premises on 18.06.1989 for the purpose of providing supply and transport duties. The 6th Squadron - Diyatalawa 140 Brigade has been established as the squadron.

Subsequently, with the expansion of the Army, the supply and transport duties of the Army have been effectively met and the following brigades belonging to this unit have been set up to cover the Western and Central Provinces.

8 SLASC Unit Upon its installation on 16.10.2014, 120 units belonging to this unit - 140 SLASC in Kandy - 140 SLASC - Diyatalawa and 150 SLASC - Weerawila squadrons were included in the 8 SLASC unit.

Subsequently, the Sri Lanka Army Division, which was a unit of the SLASC 130, was established as a unit of the SLASC under the command of the 130th Command Squadron in order to carry out the logistical and logistical duties entrusted to this unit.

Accordingly 25 Commanding Officer Commanded this unit In addition to the logistical duties that have been carried out since the beginning of this unit, troops have been deployed as security teams for the protection of law and order in Operations launched in Sri Lanka. This unit has been actively engaged in the field.

This unit also serves the needs of domestic and foreign jungle rations and dry rations, which are essential for those who are in the operation to provide supply and transport duties in carrying out the missions up to the last humanitarian mission. In addition to providing a transport and logistics unit, the unit has also begun to train athletes who can bring pride to their homeland and to bring in sportsmen and sportswomen who are proud of their motherland.

Lieutenant Colonel WW Perera as the 1st Commanding Officer of the Sri Lanka Army, establishing the 1st Sri Lanka Army unit on 3/10/1949, Major MT Majeed as the 2nd Commander of the Sri Lanka Army.
