With the expansion of the Sri Lanka Army in all parts of the country, it is essential to fulfill the duties and responsibilities assigned to the Directorate of Supply and Transport in fulfilling their duties and responsibilities. According to the Military Conduct Order No. SD / 51/04 ARO 16/2017, 9 (Vol) SLASC raised up from the Catering Battalion on 20th march 2017.
The unit will commanded and supervise under the Directorate of Supply and Transportation. The unit will be responsible for providing the necessary drivers and culinary professionals to the entire army. This unit has been relocated temporarily to the Sri Lanka Army Service Corps at Army cantonment, Panagoda-Homagama and with the approval of the Director of Land and Property Housing, permanent land at Randunupawatta Weerawila in Hambantota District of the Ruhunu Magampura area.
9th (Vol) Sri Lanka Army Service Corps unit consists of 4 officers and 390 soldiers have been deployed for professional work. The first Commanding Officer was Lieutenant Colonel MGCS Gamage RSP.
