11TH CONTINGENT OF SRI LANKAN PEACEKEEPERS RETURNS AFTER SERVING AT SRIMED LEVEL 2 HOSPITAL
The Sri Lankan medical contingent serving with the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) at the SRIMED Level 2 Hospital in Bor concluded their one-year deployment and returned to Sri Lanka on 11 March 2026. The 11th rotation of the contingent consisted of 10 Officers and 41 Other Ranks. However, 05 Officers and 04 Other Ranks have remained in South Sudan as the rear party and are scheduled to return to the country at a later date.
The returning personnel were received at Bandaranaike International Airport by S P Wickramasekara RWP RSP USP psc, Director Overseas Operations. S Wijesiriwardhane, Director of Movement and K J Ranaweera RWP RSP idu psc Isc, Centre Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Medical Corps, together with several senior officers representing the Sri Lanka Army.
Throughout their deployment, the Sri Lankan medical team played an important role in the operation of the Level 2 UN Hospital in Bor. Their responsibilities included delivering professional healthcare services while maintaining United Nations medical standards and ensuring patient safety. The contingent’s dedication and efficiency significantly contributed to the success of the hospital’s mission in supporting UN peacekeeping personnel and associated communities.
The completion of this deployment highlights the professionalism and commitment demonstrated by Sri Lankan peacekeepers, further enhancing the reputation of the Sri Lanka Army in international peacekeeping duties.
