SRI LANKA ARMY MEDICAL CORPS SENDS 10TH CONTINGENT TO UN PEACEKEEPING MISSION IN SOUTH SUDAN

In a solemn ceremony held at the Sri Lanka Army Medical Corps (SLAMC) Regimental Headquarters ground in Werahera on January 30, 2024, the 10th contingent of the SLAMC bid farewell as they prepared to embark on a crucial mission to the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in South Sudan. The contingent, comprising 64 dedicated Army personnel, including 14 Army Officers, 01 Naval Officer, and 49 Other Ranks, showcased their readiness and commitment to serve in a challenging environment.

Under the command of Lieutenant Colonel D M D J Dissanayaka RSP USP, the 10th contingent is tasked with operating the Level - 2 SRIMED Hospital, providing vital medical support to the peacekeeping mission in South Sudan. This deployment marks another milestone in Sri Lanka's longstanding commitment to international peacekeeping efforts.

The ceremony was graced by the presence of Major General W H K S Peris RWP RSP VSV USP ndu, Chief of Staff of Sri Lanka Army, who received a ceremonial salute from the contingent troops. Brigadier W A U S Wanasekara RWP USP, the Center Commandant, extended a warm welcome to the chief guest, followed by Major General P A C Fernando USP, Colonel Commandant of SLAMC and Director General Army Health Services, who escorted the chief guest to the ceremonial parade.

In a poignant moment symbolizing their preparedness and allegiance, the chief guest presented the National flag, United Nations flag, SL Army flag, and SLAMC flag to Lieutenant Colonel Dissanayaka, signifying the official handover of responsibilities to the 10th SRIMED contingent.

The ceremony was attended by Senior Officers, Officers, Other Ranks, and Family Members of the Contingent Members, who stood witness to the dedication and sacrifice of their loved ones as they prepared to serve on the international stage.

The SLAMC's continuous participation in UN peacekeeping missions reflects Sri Lanka's commitment to global peace and security. The 10th contingent's departure underscores the nation's unwavering support for humanitarian efforts in conflict zones, reaffirming its role as a responsible member of the international community.
