Sri Lanka Army’s 12th SRIMED Contingent Honoured Prior to Deployment on United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS)
The 12th Contingent of the Sri Lanka Army Medical Corps (SLAMC), scheduled to operate the SRIMED Level 2 Hospital under the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), was accorded a ceremonial send-off at the SLAMC Regimental Headquarters, Werahera, on 10 February 2026.
Prior to its departure, the contingent rendered a ceremonial salute to Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo RSP ctf-ndu psc IG, Commander of the Army. Major General P S Subath Sanjeewa RSP nps psc, Commander of 1 Corps and Colonel Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Medical Corps, formally welcomed the Army Commander, who was honoured with a Guard Turnout at the main entrance before inspecting the parade.
During the formal proceedings, the Army Commander symbolically handed over the National Flag, United Nations Flag, Sri Lanka Army Flag, and the SLAMC Flag to the Contingent Commander, signifying the unit’s readiness and commitment to the mission.
The 12th SRIMED Contingent, commanded by Colonel D R S A Jayamanna RSP USP, with Major H P D Galgodella USP serving as the Second-in-Command, comprises 63 personnel, including 13 Officers and 50 Other Ranks.
Addressing the contingent, the Army Commander extended his best wishes and underscored the importance of Sri Lanka’s continued contribution to United Nations peacekeeping operations, emphasising the significance of the mission to both the nation and the Sri Lanka Army.
Major General D K S K Dolage USP nps psc, Chief of Staff of the Army; Major General Y A B M Yahampath RWP RSP ndu psc, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Army; and Major General K V N P Premaratne RSP USP nps psc, Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force, along with Senior Officers, Other Ranks, and family members of the contingent personnel, were present at the event.
