The 8th SRIMED contingent in South Sudan, including 10 Officers and 43 Other Ranks who completed their tenure of service in the South Sudan Level - 02 hospital under the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNIMISS) returned to the island this morning (Feb 03).
The UN chartered Ethiopian Airlines flight No ET 8604 touched down at the Colombo International Airport at about 2.30 am this morning (03) and was warmly welcomed by Colonel Shantha Kumara, Deputy Centre Commandant, Sri Lanka Army Medical Corps (SLAMC), Lieutenant Colonel M.L.K.G Peiris, General Staff Officer I (GSO I), Directorate of Overseas Operations, and Lieutenant Colonel B.R Muhandiram, GSO I, SLAMC, and a gathering of Officers and Other Ranks.
Meanwhile, the 9th SRIMED-UNMISS contingent left Sri Lanka on Thursday (Feb 02) and took over duties at the South Sudan Level - 02 hospital from the 8th contingent before they left South Sudan.
This South Sudan-based new SRIMED Hospital is equipped with necessary components for secondary care medical services, including an operating theatre, labour room, intensive care unit, emergency department, out-patient department, dental surgery, dental workshop, pharmacy, medical store, radiology department, clinical laboratory, ECG room, sterilizing department, biomedical engineering section, medical waste disposal section, freezer mortuary, isolation ward and a laundry plus wards and also enjoys an aero-medical evacuation facility with ambulatory resuscitation and ventilation capabilities. All those are manned by the Sri Lankan contingent.
