CIVIL & ARMY TEAMS PLAY IN HARMONY SOCCER TOURNAMENT IN KILINOCHCHI
‘Harmony Soccer’ tournament, intended to promote goodwill and sports skills of civilians in the area was held between military and civil sport club on 11 August 2017 at Jolly Boys Soccer Ground, Pallikuda where the Vijayabahu Infantry Regimental team and Jolly Boys sport club played.\r\n\r\nUnder the concept of the Commander, Security Forces Kilinochchi, Major General Ajith Kariyakarawana and with the guidance of Major General Duminda Keppetiwalana General Officer Commanding – 66 Division, the friendly soccer tournament was organized by 661 Brigade and 15 (V) Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment.\r\n\r\nAfter a close encounter, Jolly Boys sport club team emerged as champions in the tournament scoring 02 goals against the Vijayabahu Infantry Regimental team.\r\n\r\nMajor General Bimal Vidanage, Commander Forward Maintenance Area – Kilinochchi attended as the Chief Guest for the event. Brigade Commanders of 651,661 and 663 Brigades, Senior Officers and large gathering of civil and military personnel witnessed the Harmony Soccer Tournament with enthusiasm.\r\n\r\nDuring the tournament an “Angampora” display was conducted by Vijayabahu Infantry Regimental “Angampora” team to entertain spectators. Meanwhile, distribution of school stationery for five schools in Poonaryn area also took place at the termination of the event.
