65 DIVISION TROOPS INTERACTED WITH HINDU PEOPLE FOR CELEBRATING \"THAI PONGAL\"
With the invitation of Trustee Board of Siththivinayagar Kovil at Alankulam, 65 Division troops participated for the celebrating of “Thai Pongal ” on 14 January 2017 .\r\n\r\nThe Tamil festival of Thai Pongal is a thanksgiving ceremony in which the farmers celebrate the event to thank the spirits of the nature spirit, the Sun and the farm animals for their assistance in providing a successful harvest. The rest of the people celebrate the festival to pay their thanks to the farmers for the production of food.\r\n\r\nAs per direction of General Officer Commanding – 65 Division troops have conducted sramadana and cleaned the Kovil premises before the religious act begins and also offered to needy items for the success of event.\r\n\r\nMajor General Sarath Weerawardane General Officer Commanding 65 Division, Brigade Commander - 653 Brigade, Colonel Sujith Balachandran, Commanding Officer – 21 (V) SLLI, Major Anura Bandara and officers, Other Ranks, large crowd of civilians were participated for the ceremony.\r\n
