ARMY INITIATES FIRST EVER TAMIL CULTURAL HARMONY GROUP IN KILINOCHCHI.

Sri Lanka Army initiated its first ever Tamil Cultural Troup, in its Continuing efforts of promoting co-existence among Sinhala and Tamil people, This Tamil cultural troupe was inducted on 19th March 2015 by the commander of the Army Lieutenant General AWJC De Silva RWP USP ndu psc in special ceremony held at aNelum Piyasa Auditorium, Kilinochchi. This colorful ceremony was graced by Ms R Kethishwaran, Government Agent, Kilinochchi, Senior officers in the army and some members of rotary club, school children and people in the area. The induction ceremony of this dancing & music group included the commissioning its name SathRanga by the commander of the army.\r\n\r\nThis challenging new and noble concept was initiated by Major General Sundantha Ranasinghe, Commander, Security Forces, Kilinochchi with the intention of promoting harmony and reconciliation through culture. The Troupe comprises a fusion of Male and female soldiers of both Sinhala and Tamil ethnicities from Kilinochchi and down South.\r\n\r\nThis harmonious Member of this troupe was carefully selected considering their artistic skills after picked from various units, and all of them underwent a three months training on both Tamil and Sinhala cultural traditions. \r\n\r\nHe music group members are trained on the traditional musical instruments used in Kovil Poojas, namely, Melam & Nadaswaram by the professional players from Jaffna and Kilinochchi areas. Dancing also was trained by a master who is locally recruited specially for this purpose.\r\n
