Mine Risk Education Programme was conducted by the Security Forces Headquarters Kilinochchi for school children,teachers and parents in the area in collaboration with the Army Demining Unit, DASH Demining Group, HALO TRUST Demining Group and SHADE Mine Risk Education Organization at the ‘NELUM PIYASA Auditorium’ in Iranamadu on 26 April 2014. There were more than 600 participants. This was initially planned to be conducted on 4 April 2014 in connection with the International Day for Mine Awareness but postponed to 26 April due to school term tests.
A video clip and a stage drama on mine awareness were played. The Commander Security Forces Kilinochchi too addressed the gathering and educated them on mine awareness and also informed the pupils that the Army is keen to help them to pursue their future studies.
There were demonstrations on manual. mechanical de mining and de mining by dogs. Apart from that various type of de mining equipments and explosive devices were displayed.
