Deepavali, the festival of happiness was celebrated in grand scale at the Harmony centre Kilinochchi on 8 November 2013. The religious ceremony was conducted on Deepavali day on 2 November 2013 and this beautiful event was a cultural day with the participation religious dignitaries of Buddhist, Hindu and Catholic, government officials, NGO & INGO members, traders, general public, visitors & guests, Security forces and civil police officials. Cultural performances by the Students of Mahadeva Asrama Kilinochchi, University of Dance & Performing Arts Colombo and members of Civil Security Department added glamour and colour to the event. Kurukkal Sri Rathneshwara, the Chief Kurukkal Kandasamy kovil Kilinochchi explained the gathering on symbolism, meaning and value of Deepavali in both Tamil and English languages. Harmony centre was full of people where approximately 600 participated at the event and all were served with a delicious food & beverages. Security forces organized the event where Major General Udaya Perera, Commander Security Forces addressed the gathering and explained the value of ethnic harmony and friendship. The event truly provided an opportunity to all the segments of community in Kilinochchi to meet and enjoy the cultural performance and the day.
