PULIIYANPOKKNAI NAGATHAMBIRAN TEMPLE ANNUAL RELIGIOUS CEREMONY CONCLUDED CEREMONIOUSLY

Nagathambiran Hindu Temple which is sited at Pulliyanpokknai has a legendry history of more than 600 years and it is the most sacred and respected Hindu Temple in Kilinochchi District. The annual religious ceremony which was ceremoniously concluded on 29 March 2013 marked with the participation of many devotees from all over the Northern part of Sri Lanka. This year$s ceremony concluded with special remarks due to the participation of nearly 400 Army Soldiers. The Security Force Commander Kilinochchi Major General Udaya Perera and many other senior officers from the Army also participated for the concluding ceremony on 29 March with the invitation of the caretaker committee headed by Mr. Vairamuththu. The major religious ceremony of this year was held on 26 March where nearly three hundred thousand devotees from all over the Northern Peninsula attended. Many people were praising that due to return of normalcy they are free to travel and worship the religious places. They also praised the development activities taken place in Pulliyanpoknai area after so many years. Nagathambiran Temple was renovated and redeveloped recently with the generous assistance of the Army Troops deployed in the area. A new 56 x 29 feet building was added to the existing facilities where Army Soldiers provided the manpower, skill and some of the material assistance. A total of 32 light posts which cost Rs 20000.00 per unit were also donated by the Army and renovating a 100 meters road stretch included to the infrastructure development efforts in addition to many soldiers attending to render assistance in cleaning the entire surrounding place of worship prior to this year$s ceremony. Improving places of worship is highly essential in ensuring a long lasting peace and harmony thus healing the wounded hearts and mind of people due to the prevailing conflict situation in the area.
