66 INFANTRY DIVISION COORDINATES A PROGRAMME OF DONATING SCHOOL ACCESSORIES FOR SCHOOL CHILDREN OF FLOOD AFFECTED AREAS

66 Infantry Division has taken initiative to coordinate and conduct a donation of essential School Items for 112 School Children who suffered from recent flood situation occurred in areas of Wannerikulam, Kiranchi, Urthirapuram, Shivanagar and Pudumurippu belongs to 66 Division AOR. The donation programme was sponsored by Mr. Suresh Skandarajah and the Trade Society - Kurunegala with the direct coordination of Mr. Piyal Keppetiwalana and they have distributed 112 packs of essential School items which is worth approximately Rs.300000.00.

The donation ceremony was held at the Government Tamil Mixed School - Shivanagar on Sunday, 06 January 2019 with the blessing of the school principal, staff and parents. Troops of 20 Sri Lanka Light Infantry organized the event with the supervision of 662 Infantry Brigade. Brigadier Deepthi Jayathilaka, General Officer Commanding - 66 Infantry Division graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, together with Senior officers, Mr. Suresh Skandarajah and members of Trade Society - Kurunegala joined the donation ceremony in the presence of a gathering of parents, teachers, students and community leaders in the area.

This event encouraged the children to make full use of the opportunities made available to them in order to pursue their desired goals and to becoming responsible citizens of our nation. General Officer Commanding pays special attention to every detail of this event, knowing very well that 66 Infantry Division gives its priority to welfare and education of children.

After the event all participants in the ceremony were offered with refreshments. The Chief Guest and the gathering of donors spare some time to share the views with the participants. During that session School Principal, teachers, parents and children expressed compliments to military and they were heartedly appreciate and paid their humble gratitude towards the military. In the same time they have requested to continue with this type of community assistance programs in future too.
