57 DIVISION TROOPS ATTEND FLOOD EMERGENCIES IN KILINOCHCHI

Army troops serving in Kilinochchi district, rising to the occasion in the face of flood threats, are currently providing immediate rescue assistance, cooked meals, helping for evacuation and relocation, medical assistance, sanitary and technical facilities, support to District Secretariat’s for relief work, etc. There are nearly 2968 flood-affected people in Raththinapuram, Anandapuram, Kanakambikulam, Maradanagar, Pannankandy, Dharmapuram, Puliyanpokkanei, Paranthan, Kudyirippu,Uriyan, Kandawalai, Mankulam areas within Security Force– Kilinochchi AOR.

More than 230 troops belong to 7 Sri Lanka Light Infantry Regiment, 9 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment, 1 Sri Lanka Singhe Regiment, 15Sri Lanka Singhe Regiment under 57 Division of Security Force Headquarters –Kilinochchi conducted rescue operations under the directions of the Commander, Security Force - Kilinochchi, Major General Ralf Nugera with the close supervision of Major General Vijitha Ravipriya, General Officer Commanding - 57 Division.

Meanwhile, Troops of the Security Force Headquarters-Kilinochchi avoided a major disaster by preventing a possible breach of Olumadhu tank bund and Pulimuchchunadukuluam bund in Kilinochchi District on 22 December 2018.

Both tank bunds suffered a damage following the torrential rain full experienced during last week. Soldiers joined hands to set up sand bags that would save the bunds from further collapsing.

2x40 troops of 574 Brigade and 3 Gajaba Regiment Troops under 57 Division took immediate action to place 838 sandbags to prevent further damage to the tank bunds under the directions of the Commander, Security Force - Kilinochchi with the close supervision of General Officer Commanding - 57 Division
