TROOPS OF 65 DIVISION SUPPORTED TO RENOVATE IRRIGATION CANAL AT VAVNIKULAM
The south bank canal of the Vavunikulam reservoir, which earlier carried water to many hundreds of acres of agrarian land in Vavunikulam - Thunukkkai areas, was renovated by troops under 65 Division on 07 September 2017 as the direction of General Officer Commanding Sarath Weerawardhana RSP USP IG, before releasing of water along it for the main season (Maha).\r\n\r\nA total of 700 troops of the 65 Division with the support of about 200 members of the farming community in the area, began to clear wild bushes and heaps of sluggish soil inside the canal, in response to a request of the civilians who are mostly dependent on farming and according to the pledge was made by P Viharan, Irrigation Engineer - Vavnikulam.\r\n\r\nVavunikulam Irrigation Engineer, Technical Officers in the Regional Irrigational Office, Army Officers and Other Rankers, beneficiaries and people in the area attended to the said sharamadana Campaign.\r\n
