SRI LANKA ARMY INTER REGIMENT WRESTLING (NOVICES) TOURNAMENT - 2015
The 12th Inter Regiment Wrestling (Novices) Tournament was organized under the supervision and directions of Maj Gen S Ranasinghe RWP RSP ndu psc Commander, Security Force (KLN) and Chairman, Sri Lanka Army Wrestling Association at \"Nelum Piyasa\" in Kilinochchi from 24 July 2015 to 28 July 2015. This was the second Inter Regiment Wrestling Tournament held in the North.\r\n\r\n The tournament was participated by teams representing 12 Regiments. The bouts were conducted as per rules and regulations of Sri Lanka Wrestling and FILA (International Federation of Associated Wrestling Styles) both in male and female weight categories.\r\n\r\n Over 170 wrestling in male and 30 wrestlers in female totaling 200 wrestlers took part in 17 weight categories in novices bouts. This tournament created history in Army Wrestling as this was the first ever tournament to be conducted by Referees and National level players available in the Army. 14 referees/judges of Sri Lanka Army Wrestling Association conducted this most successful tournament. \r\n\r\n The finals of the tournament was held on 28 July 2015 at \"Nelum Piyasa\" in Kilinochchi with Maj Gen N Udawatta WWV RSP USP ndc psc, Commander, Security Forces (Jaffna) and Colonel Commandant, Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police gracing the occasion as the Chief Guest. Large number of trophies, medals and awards were distributed amongst the wrestlers by the Chief Guest, Chairman, Army Wrestling and other invitees. \r\n\r\n SLE clinched the novices championship while SLSR became runner up with GR securing the third place. Rifleman Prabath P D J of SLSR was adjudged as the Best Wrestler while Lance Corporal Wijitha Malani S P of 6 (V)SLAWC clinching the award for Best Female Wrestler. Craftsman Pradeep J K of SLEME was adjudged as the Best Up & Coming Wrestler of the tournament.\r\n
