The third wave of Covid 19 is now spreading rapidly in the country and the government is giving its maximum effort to curb it and ensure the good health and normal lifestyle of the people. In that, Sri Lanka Army is currently playing a major role with the guidance of the General Shavendra Silva, the Head of the National Operation Centre for Prevention of Covid-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO), the Chief of Defence Staff and the Commander of the Army. Under the close supervision and guidance of the Commander Security Forces - Kilinochchi Major General Harendra Ranasinghe, Troops of Kilinochchi is playing a vital role in preventing of spreading New Covid 19 Virus and assisting healthcare agencies in the area.
Troops are carrying out various activities to ensure proper implementation of the various measures and restrictions imposed by the government in order to prevent the spreading of Covid 19. Accordingly, established Army roadblocks during travel restriction periods to check the unnecessary movement of the people. Special Rider teams belong to SFHQ (KLN) are conducting special patrols covering the Kilinochchi area, conducting regular inspections, sudden temperature checking and public awareness programmes on compliance with the health guidelines. Moreover, troops are being deployed in identified gathering areas to conduct awareness programmes on safety precautions and other health instructions on Covid 19. In addition, people of Kilinochchi are being made aware of the health guidelines through the use of wide screens placed in Kilinochchi town.
Further, 03 Intermediate Care Centers were set up under the supervision of the Commander of the Security Forces Kilinochchi under the direction of the Commander of the Army for the treatment of Covid-19 patients. Three Intermediate Treatment Centers capable with 750 beds (350 beds at Bharathipuram ICC, 200 beds at Murukandi ICC and 200 beds at Paranthan ICC) which has been constructed with the fully assistance of Army Personnel.
The Commander SF (KLN) instructed ground troops to take maximum preventive measures to eradicate Covid 19 pandemic. Further, he has ordered to continue monitoring process on civilians and instructed to get the assistance of all available resources and employment of more troops while coordinating with SL Police and other relevant health authorities. All General Officers Commanding, Brigade Commanders and other Formation Commanders are throwing their fully weight to success this effort continuously.
