The Best Music Band and Vocalist Competition for the troops in Security Force Kilinochchi were organized by 65 Division as an idea proposed by former Commander Security Force Kilinochchi Major General Niyshshanka Ranawana. The final round of the event was held on 06 March 2019 at Nelumpiyasa Auditorium with the participation of General Officer Commanding 57 Division Major General Vijitha Ravipriya who graced the occasion as the chief guest.
The competition was held in 2 stages under the supervision of General Officer Commanding of 65 Division and the event was organized by 651 Brigade. In the first stage troops had the opportunity to undergo a training sessions at Battalion Training School, Mulankavil from 22 October 2018 to 26 October 2018 with the participation of six Beat Groups and nine Calypso Bands. Mr. Pradeep Bogahawatthe, who is recognized as one of the best musicians extended his assistance in training the competitors. During the second stage, with the guidance of Commander Security Force Kilinochchi Major General Ralph Nugera and under the supervision of General Officer Commanding 65 Division Major General Wasantha Kumarapperuma, 651 Brigade organized the final event in the competition on 5th and 6th March 2019.
1 Battalion Gajaba Regiment won the first place in the Beat Group competition and 6 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment won the first place in the Calypso band competition. S/465673 Cpl Induka TS from 1 Battalion Gajaba Regiment won the first place as the best singer of Security Force Kilinochchi while S/329912 L/Cpl Dissanayake TAHM from 10 Sri Lanka Light Infantry and S/D101295 Pte Janapriya KMMP from 21 (V) SLLI secured the 2nd and 3rd places accordingly. Mr Pradeep Bogahawatte, Capt A S Ruwanpura and PO B I T Perera participated and extended their guidance and expert assistance during the competition as the panel of judges.
