SECOND ARMY IMPROVISED ICC AT KILINOCHCHI IS NOW READY FOR OPERATION

Considering the fast swelling number of COVID – 19 infected personnel, troops in Security Force Kilinochchi Area of Responsibility have converted Murukkandi Quarantine Centre in to an Intermediate Care Centre (ICC) which consists with 350 beds.

To be in line with the instructions given by General Shavendra Silva, Head of NOCPCO, Chief of Defence Staff and the Commander of the Army, Sri Lanka Army has developed 2nd ICC which starts to function within few days, under the close supervision and guidance of Major General Harendra Ranasinghe, the Commander, Security Forces Kilinochchi and District Coordinating Officer for COVID-19 Outbreak of Kilinochchi District. This new ICC will provide a coordinated response to the present 3rd wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, strengthening the capacity of the health care system by accommodating and isolating positive cases.

The Commander Security Force Kilinochchi made a field visit to Murukkandi Intermediate Care Centre (ICC) in order to inspect the newly established ICC on 14 May 2021 which has begun operations today onwards. During the visit, he inquired the essential requirements of the centre and had a chat with the medical staff as regards its operational and supporting roles.

Regional Director of Health Services Dr. R.N Sarvanabawan, Dr. Tharanga from Darmapuram hospital, Head of the Nursing staff Mr. Kupenthirarajah Muralitharan, General Officer Commanding 57 Infantry Division Major General Priyantha Jayawardena, Brigadier Administration and Quartering Brigadier Deepal Hathurusinghe, Colonel General Staff of the SFHQ (KLN) and other senior officers at the Army Base Hospital Kilinochchi also participated the opening event.
