PADA YATHRA

Pada Yathra organized and sponsored under the collaboration of Presidential Secretariat, National Youth Service Council and "Tharunyata Hetak" foundation of National Federation of Youth Club reached Kilinochchi on 28 March 2013 evening. The Buddhist Religious group was led by the most venerable 12th Gyalwang Drupka clergy from India which included 50 male monks, 160 female monks and more than 52 foreign nationals representing 23 countries. The march which was started on 6 March 2013 from Katharagama reached Kilinochchi on 28 evening and then commenced their march on 29 Morning from the resting place organized by the Security Force Kilinochchi at Iranamadu. The local people gathered at Youth Center Kilinochchi gave a warm welcome and joined the march giving a true meaning to the religious harmony, respect and understanding imbedded in the Sri Lankan society. The intention of the march is to spread the message of peace and harmony thus wishing well for the people of Sri Lanka. The chief clergy most venerable 12th Gyalwang Drupka extended a sincere vote of thanks for the Security Force Kilinochchi for providing all the necessary assistance and facilities for a comfortable stay at Kilinochichi on 28 March. He further expressed his gratitude for the People of Kilinochchi for actively participating for the “Pad Yatra”. The Pad Yatra was a novel experience for the people of Kilinochchi and surely it gives a very good message for the world to understand the strength of religious harmony and respect we share towards each religion.
