An awareness programme on illegal sand mining, transporting and related environmental issues was conducted by the President Geological Survey and mines Bureau Mr Senarath Jayasundara, Director General - Engineer Anil Pieris and Deputy Director mines - Engineer DS De Silva. Divisional Secretaries, government officials, Security Forces and Police personnel from Kilinochchi and Vavuniya attended the programme . The audience was educated on new enactments and laws pertaining to illegal removal of gravel and sand mining.
