KILINOCHI TROOPS OBSERVED RELIGIOUS RITUALS TO CELEBRATE THAIPONGAL

Security Force Kilinochchi troops organized religious rituals at Kilinochchi Kandasami Kovil to celebrate the Thaipongal Day on 14 January 2021, under the guidance of Major General Sampath Kotuwegoda , Commander Security Force Kilinochchi and with the supervision of Major General Sujeewa Senarathyapa , General Officer Commanding 57 Infantry Division.

This Hindu devotees’ thanksgiving ceremony for the year’s harvest was sponsored and organized by troops of 57 Infantry Division joining hands with the Kovil Chief Priest Jegadishwaran Kurukkal and Hindu religious dignitaries. The aim of organizing the rituals was strengthening the reconciliation efforts between the Sri Lanka Army soldiers and civilians in the area of responsibility.

Commander Security Force Kilinochchi graced the occasion, and the offering of consecrated dishes was conducted by the Security Force Commander and the General Officer Commanding 57 Division. In addition, senior officers, officers and troops participated in the rituals with strictly adhering to the Covid-19 health precautions.
