INTERNATIONAL DAY FOR MINE AWARENESS AND ASSISTANCE IN MINE ACTION
The United Nations$ International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action is observed on 4th April in each year. This day aims to raise awareness among the community about landmines and progress toward their eradication.
The Security Force Headquarters (KLN) under the directions of Commander Security Forces (KLN) is planned to conduct a De-Mining Awareness Programme on 26th April 2014 at Nelum Piyasa Auditorium Iranamadu, Kilinochchi in collaboration with school authorities and de-mining organizations including the Sri Lanka Army Field Engineers, the premier de-mining organization in Sri Lanka. This was initially scheduled to be conducted on 4th April 2014 but rescheduled to 26th April due to term tests being conducted by schools. This programme will consist of dramas, displaying of mines and de-mining equipments and demonstrations of mechanical and manual de –mining and also demonstration of de-mining by specially trained dogs and etc.
